Saanich-Gulf Islands
Colin Plant
Having grown up on the Saanich Peninsula in Central Saanich, Colin Plant has known island living his whole life. And ever since he’s been able to call Saanich-Gulf Islands home, he has been a passionate and effective advocate for his neighbours and the beautiful natural spaces they share.
Colin’s parents were dairy farmers on Island View Road. But for Colin, teaching was his calling. He has been a teacher for 25 years in the Saanich School District.
No stranger to elected life, Colin has also been an integral part of the Capital Regional District Board since 2014. He has served as Board Chair since 2018.
He is proud of the work he's been a part of at the Board; he’s seen the Board declare a climate emergency, acquire the former Royal Oak Golf Course, expand the CRD’s affordable housing inventory by 50%, and work to develop a regional transportation service and enter into a new relationship with First Nations in the region.
Colin was voted in as a councillor to Saanich Council in 2014 and was re-elected in 2018 and 2022. During his time on Council, he worked to see that all homes built would be solar-ready and that all new residences had electric vehicle charging infrastructure. Colin also moved to establish Saanich’s LGBTQ committee to advise Council on issues of equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Colin has always striven to be a collaborative and consensus-seeking leader who is not afraid to ask tough questions and will always respond to residents who reach out for support.
He has four adult sons and is married to his best friend, Catherine. They met while studying Theatre at the University of Victoria.
Colin is a passionate Canadian who would be honoured to be able to bring the voices of Saanich-Gulf Islands to Ottawa. He is looking forward to meeting with voters in every part of the riding and hearing different perspectives on how we can create a Canada that leaves no one behind.
